When His disciples once asked Jesus, “Lord, teach us to pray” (Luke 11:1). It was not that these good Jewish boys had never heard about prayer, or prayed themselves – they’d all been brought up on a steady diet of family prayer and blessing, and synagogue sabbath prayer. They were steeped in it. But their question revealed their shocked realisation that the way Jesus prayed - and what happened when He did – was not the kind of prayer they knew about. Something about the way Jesus prayed had triggered in all of them a desire to become more proficient, capable and powerful in prayer. Soon, they were doing what Jesus was doing! Sound familiar! This could be you, too.
